Posting Guidelines

Guidelines in effect starting December 4, 2023.

In an effort to reduce waste and move towards a more sustainable and digital approach, please consider the following options to promote your events, programs, and services through the Welcome ticketing system: internal tv screens, weekly digital newsletter or social media.

Posting guidelines refer to the utilization of posting areas and the posting of signs, flyers, announcements, etc. at Mohawk College. The Posting Guidelines are administered by Student Life and apply to all campuses.

Posting Guidelines

If you would like to proceed with posting, please limit each poster to no more than 12 copies per campus and review the guidelines below:

  1. All materials posted on a Mohawk College campus must comply with these Student Life office posting guidelines.
  2. All posters must expire no more than four months after posting. Exceptions may be appealed through the Student Life office and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  3. Designated posting sites are under the discretion of Student Life and will be determined per year.
  4. Posting areas should be primarily used for Mohawk College in-house information. External information such as public service announcements, partner organization information, etc. must be approved by Student Life before posting. This will be considered on a case-by-case basis regarding the value to and impact on students.
  5. During major special events such as Orientation and Student Elections, exceptions to these guidelines may be made with the approval of the Student Life Office (student.life [at] mohawkcollege.ca (student[dot]life[at]mohawkcollege[dot]ca))
  6. Materials that directly profit an individual or business must not only comply with all guidelines listed but must also be connected to the Mohawk College community through its staff or students. Posting eligibility will be determined by the Student Life office.
  7. Materials should only be posted in designated posting areas. No materials should be posted on painted surfaces, two-way glass, or ceilings. Posters on doors must specifically and directly relate to the respective academic or service area. Posters will not be allowed in washrooms unless previously approved.
  8. Infringements, perceived or otherwise, on individual freedoms or perceived addresses of religious, political, moral, or ethical issues will not be permitted. Mohawk College is committed to ensuring an academic and working environment that recognizes the dignity and worth of all students and employees and in which all individuals are treated with respect. Speech that violates the law, including the Ontario Human Rights Code, is not permitted. As stated in the Student Behaviour policy, a range of responses including restorative measures and disciplinary sanctions can be implemented depending on the severity and pattern of the behaviour in question.

    Poster Requirements

  9. All materials must include an expiry date in the bottom right-hand corner. See example below.
  1. Banners or signs larger than 11” x 17” are not permitted.
  2. All materials must contain accurate contact information. Internal materials must follow AODA guidelines, brand guidelines, and the approved template which can be created through the Optimizely ticketing system.
  3. All materials must be hung using green painter’s tape and must be used on the backs of posters only. No additional materials such as clear tape, duct tape, masking tape, or staples will be permitted.
  4. Internal partners wishing to post, and where their material meets the above guidelines, are responsible for posting their posters in the approved designated posting areas.
  5. Student Life will monitor the designated areas for postering. Materials not adhering to these guidelines will be removed.
  6. In applying the above guidelines, the College will exercise common sense and discretion in the best interest of all members of the College community. Concerns can be directed to student.life [at] mohawkcollege.ca (student[dot]life[at]mohawkcollege[dot]ca) and may be escalated to Manager, Student Life when appropriate.
