Mohawk Music faculty join unique jazz group

HAMILTON -- Mohawk Music faculty are joining one of the world's top jazz baritone players and faculty from other colleges and universities to perform a series of concerts this month.

New York City baritone saxophonist and William Paterson University faculty member Gary Smulyan has recruited Mohawk's Darcy Hepner and Pat Collins for a new project featuring the music of Frankie Laine. Joining the band are Terry Promane from the University of Toronto, Alex Dean and Brian Dickinson from Humber College, Barry Elmes from York University and New York City trumpeter Nick Marchione.

The goal of the project is to bring educators from different college and university jazz programs together to play music and share ideas.

The band will perform Feb. 11 at the Corktown in Hamilton and Feb. 12-13 at the Rex Jazz and Blues Bar in Toronto.
